7DriveIconChanger R5 is a lightweight, legacy customization utility designed for Windows 7 to quickly change individual drive icons in Windows Explorer. Core Features & Review
Portability: Requires no installation, runs as a single lightweight executable file, and leaves no registry junk behind.
Ease of Use: Features a straightforward two-box interface where you select the target drive letter and browse for a new icon (.ico) file.
Efficiency: Eliminates the need to manually navigate the Windows Registry or build hidden autorun.inf files on every drive partition.
Limitations: It does not support newer Windows ⁄10 icon formats natively, does not scale well on high-DPI displays, and cannot change default folder icons—only storage drives. Step-by-Step Usage Guide
Launch the Utility: Right-click the 7DriveIconChanger.exe file and select Run as administrator to ensure it has permission to modify system layouts.
Select Target Drive: Use the drop-down menu to choose the specific drive letter (e.g., C:, D:) you want to modify.
Choose the Icon: Click the “Browse” button and navigate to your desired .ico file. Note that it must be a valid icon file; standard .png or .jpg images will not work. Apply Changes: Click the “Change Icon” button.
Refresh Windows Explorer: If the new icon does not appear right away, restart explorer.exe via Task Manager or log out and back into your Windows account to clear the system icon cache.
Reset to Default: If you want to revert to the stock look, select the drive letter again and click the “Reset” or “Clear” button within the tool.
